Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I see you for counselling? I have my counselling practice in Saxmundham. These premises are a five and a ten minute walk from the town's station making it accessible for people living in Ipswich, Woodbrdge and Lowestoft. I am also able to work with clients from further afield over the telephone.
What days and times am I able to come for counselling? Appointments are available on Tuesdays from 8am to midday and all day on Wednesdays and Thursdays including in the evening up to 8pm. Other days/ times (including Saturday mornings) may be available subject to mutual agreement .
How can I contact you to discuss counselling or to make an appointment? You can either email me using the link on this website, or text/ leave me a message on my mobile phone (07876 506096) and I will get back to you as soon as I can (please let me know if there are any issues regarding confidentiality if you leave a message asking me to call back).
For how long will I need to come for counselling? This will depend on what issues have brought you to counselling and what changes you are hoping to bring about in your life. Most clients come for a minimum of 6 to 8 sessions, however this can be longer if the presenting issues suggest that this would be helpful or necessary. This will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
How do I know that counselling is right for me? I strongly believe that it is important that you feel comfortable talking to me, and that you are ready and able to come for counselling. For that reason I offer an initial consultation (which will last between 45 and 60 minutes) to self funding clients for a fee of £25. At the end of that session you are under no obligation to go ahead with further sessions.
Can I stop coming to counselling at any time? Yes, although I would ask that you discuss this with me if possible as I believe that proper planned endings are important,
How long are the sessions? They will normally last for 60 minutes although this can be up to 90 minutes by negotiation (for example if you have a long way to travel for appointments).
How much will the sessions cost? My standard charge for private clients is £45 for a 60 minute session. This is by negotiation and a limited number of places are available at a reduced cost to those who are unemployed or on a low wage. The fee is £50 when undertaken on behalf of employee assistance programmes, insurance companies or other counselling that is to be invoiced and paid for in arrears.
How much notice do I need to give if I am unable to attend a session? It is helpful if you can give as much notice as possible (normally a couple of weeks) for holidays or planned cancellations. If you are unwell I would ask that you contact me as soon as possible once you know that you will not be able to see me. If you fail to attend or give less than 24 hours notice the full session fee will be charged.
Is the location wheelchair accessible? Yes, please discuss your needs when you contact me.
